David Ritter, mD, PhD

Dr. Ritter earned his bachelor’s degree from Grace College and his M.D. and Ph.D. degrees from Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, PA. His thesis research worked on understanding how ion channels are modulated to lead to chronic pain states. In that work, he showed several phenotypes of a single ion channel that was able to explain the disease process. After medical school, he completed his residency in Pediatric Neurology at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. He then joined the Tuberous Sclerosis Center of Excellence at Cincinnati Children’s. Within the TSC group, Dr. Ritter is seeking to understand what factors predict future disease processes in TSC by understanding the earliest signs of the disease (for example: cardiac rhabdomyomas). As an assistant professor at the University of Cincinnati, he is active in training the next generation of physicians and scientists. Outside of medicine, he enjoys spending time with his family, basketball, gardening, and being involved in foster care.
